About Us
Bandicoot Pottery Cobargo NSW
Studio of Daniel Lafferty and Gabrielle Powell
Bandicoot Pottery, situated in a beautiful bushland setting, prioritises environmental responsibility through practices such as using energy-efficient kilns, reclaiming clay, and sourcing materials locally.
Bandicoot Pottery offers engaging pottery workshops and serves as a training facility for potters, providing expert mentoring and skill development.
Founded in 1990 by ceramicists Daniel Lafferty and Gabrielle Powell, our passion for clay began during our training at the ANU Canberra School of Art.
In 2020, after the devastating Black Summer Bushfires, we reimagined our studio with a focus on sustainability.
Our facilities now include a large training room, pottery wheels, a hand-building space, and an undercover kiln. We conduct workshops and classes, sharing our love for clay with the community.
By 2023, we completed the Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard with Destination NSW, transforming our operations and reinforcing our environmental commitment. We prioritise sustainability by using energy-efficient kilns, reclaiming clay, and sourcing materials locally.
Our 13 kW solar system significantly reduces electric firing costs, and we operate a wood-fired trolley kiln using waste wood from nearby properties. Our solar passive showroom gallery showcases handmade decorative ceramics and pottery homewares. We host seasonal events like Open Studio during the October Long Weekend and the Annual Christmas Sale in December, and we welcome visitors anytime by appointment due to irregular hours.
We welcome everyone to explore pottery—children, youth, adults, and families. Pottery offers a fulfilling hobby that fosters creativity and connection. Following the bushfires, we've also engaged in community recovery initiatives and supported programs for women and youth.
Bandicoot Pottery is dedicated to fostering the next generation of ceramicists. We mentor other professional potters and host residencies and internships to share our expertise. We invite you to visit our studio, explore our creative space in the Bega Valley, and discover the joy of pottery while supporting sustainability through recycling and upcycling efforts.
WINNER 2025 Bega Valley Business Awards: Sustainable Tourism and an Honourable mention for the Micro Business category.
